BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Following a scoreless first inning, Mont Saint Mary struck first, scoring two runs on two hits in the bottom of the second to take the early lead, 2-0.
  • The Falcons' defensive unit kept the Knights at bay until the bottom of the fifth when the hosts scored four runs behind a two-run RBI single, a sacrifice fly to right field, and an RBI single to left center to increase its lead to six, 6-0.
  • Albertus' first run of the game came in the top of the seventh as the Falcons loaded the bases with no outs before a flyout from Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) allowed Nick Ramos (Mineola, N.Y.) to score from third, cutting the deficit to five, 6-1.
  • The Falcons' seventh-inning rally was short-lived, leaving three runners on base following back-to-back outs from Ron Losacano (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.).
  • Albertus continued to swing the bat and capitalized on a pitching change by the Knights in the top of the eighth by loading the bases, despite two outs on the scoreboard, but a foul out to first ended the offensive threat sent the teams to their designated dugouts.
  • Mount Saint Mary tacked on an additional two runs in the bottom of the eighth following back-to-back RBIs from Devin Tait and Anthony Franco, increasing its lead to seven, 8-1.
  • The Falcons could not get a rally going in the top of the ninth as the blue-and-white went down 1-2-3.
