HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as the blue-and-white scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first, but the Bears rallied in the home half of the inning, scoring six runs on five hits and three errors to take a four-run lead, 6-2.
  • The next two innings saw the Falcons push their lead to two, 8-6, tallying a run in the second and five in the third.
  • The lone run of the second inning was scored on a wild pitch that allowed Broadhurst to score from third, while the quintet of runs in the third were scored off two hits from Sebastian Velez (East Haven, Conn.) and Broadhurst and two Bears' errors.
  • The Falcons kept their hot streak going at the plate, adding another run scored in the top of the fourth following an RBI sacrifice fly from Joseph Cortes (Bridgeport, Conn.), making the score 9-6.
  • Saint Joseph's made things interesting in the bottom of the fourth as the Bears trimmed the deficit to one, 9-8, following a pair of RBI singles from Louis Lombardi and Sean Schneeberg.
  • The Falcons continued to swing the bat and put runners on the corners before an RBI single from Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) allowed the 10th run of the game to score and give the blue-and-white a two-run cushion, 10-8.
  • A two-run cushion turned to three, 11-8, in the top of the sixth as Cortes crossed home after capitalizing on a throwing error by the pitcher.
  • The Bears rallied during their final two at-bats and scored the final three runs needed to send the game into extra innings, 11-11.
  • Albertus proved to be the stronger team as the Falcons managed to put runners on two runners on first and second with two outs and forced the Bears to go to their bullpen. From there, Broadhurst doubled to left center to allow Cortes to score while also loading the bases for Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.), who reached on an error by the second baseman and sent Yandy James Patterson, N.J.) home.
  • Jefferson came in clutch for the Falcons during the Bears' final at-bat and forced a 1-2-3 inning to give the blue-and-white the neutral site victory, 13-11, in 10 innings.
