KEY HIGHLIGHTS - Game 1

  • The Gators threatened in the top of the first inning, putting runners on first and second with one out via an error and a walk, but Falcon's starter Tyler Baldwin (Cromwell, Conn.) induced a lineout to second base that doubled the runner on second up for an inning-ending double play.
  • The Falcons took the early lead in the bottom of the frame when Jefferson drove a two-out fastball over the right field wall. Back-to-back walks to Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) and Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) put two on with two out, but Sage starter Isaac Brown wiggled out of the jam with a groundout.
  • Baldwin kept the visitors off the board in the second with a 1-2-3 inning that included two punchouts.
  • AMC went back to work offensively in the bottom of the frame, as Anthony Broadhurst (Stratford, Conn.) led off the inning with a walk, before advancing to second on a wild pitch. A groundout advanced him to third, before Broadhurst scored on an RBI-lineout to right field from Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.). With two outs and none on, Ron Losacano (Old Lyme, Conn.) worked a walk, before Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.) followed with an infield single. Jefferson smacked a single to right field to score Losacano, before Sullivan ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line to give AMC the 5-0 lead.

  • The Gators continued to swing the bat in the fourth, scoring a run on two hits to make it a one-run game, 5-4. The Falcons put two on in the bottom of the fourth on hits from Kozlowski and Jefferson, but were unable to push a run across and the teams moved to the fifth inning.
  • The Falcons increased their lead to 6-4 in the fifth inning when S. Smith clobbered a fastball and sent it over the left centerfield wall for a homerun.
  • In the sixth inning, Kozlowski connected for a one-out double, but was left stranded on the bags when Gator's hurler Nolan Sniffen induced a pair of groundouts to end the inning.
  • AJ Rooks (Coventry, Conn.) took the ball in the top of the fifth, and held the Gators scoreless and hitless for the next three innings, while striking out four to earn the three-inning save and preserve the Falcon's 6-4 victory.
