NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team held an early lead, but fell to the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), 15-9 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference road game.
Four players had two hits for the Falcons, including Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams scored a run in the first inning as Espada scored on a wild pitch in the top half. The Bears took a lead on a solo homer from John Tacchini in the bottom of the second inning, making it a 2-1 game.
- The Falcons took a 4-2 lead in the top of the this as Espada and Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning before Smith singled to drive in Espada to tie the game. Sullivan drew a walk to load the bases and Arent followed two batters later with a free pass, giving Albertus a 3-2 lead. Smith then scored on a pass ball to cap the three-run inning. Smith also drove in a run in the top of the fourth giving Albertus its biggest lead of the game at 5-2.
- Coast Guard, however, put three big innings together to take a commanding 15-5 lead after the bottom of the seventh. The Bears scored four in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run double from Carson Cho to make it a 5-5 game. The Bears took a 6-5 lead on an RBI single from Richard Barkley.
- The Bears took a commanding 10-5 lead after another four-run inning in the bottom of the sixth as a they loaded the bases with one out. A walk and hit by pitch made it an 8-5 game and an RBI single from John Tacchini made it a four-run game. Coast Guard added a sacrifice fly. Coast Guard added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh, including three straight extra base hits including a two-run homer from Wyat Duthu.
- Albertus made a rally in the top of the ninth - all with two outs - as Sullivan drove in a run on a single and Troy Piascik (East Haven, Conn.) hit a two-run double. Arent finished the scoring with an RBI single.
