Sullivan Gets 100th Career Hit As Albertus Baseball Ends Season With Split Against WCSU

DANBURY, Conn. - Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) notched his 100th career hit as the Albertus Magnus College baseball team split with Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) in a doubleheader season finale. Albertus took game one, 5-0 before losing game two, 8-2.

Sullivan's milestone hit came in the fourth inning of game one as he singled to lead off the inning. It was his second hit of the game as he also had an RBI double in the first inning. Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.) also doubled while scoring two runs in the first game. Albert Molina (Terryville, Conn.) pitched a complete game throwing seven innings and allowing just five hits with two strikeouts.

In game two, WCSU scored six runs in the bottom of the second enroute to the win. Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with a run in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus jumped on the board with two runs in the top of the first as Espada led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on an error, and scored on a groundout by Spataj. Galarza and Sullivan followed with back-to-back doubles to take a 2-0 lead.
  • After giving up two hits in the bottom of the first, Molina retired six straight batters and the Falcons' offense gave him some more run support, scoring a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by King Rivera (Bridgeport, Conn.).
  • Two more runs crossed the plate in the top of the fifth as Anthony Abate and Galarza both reached on errors, putting runners on the corners. A wild pitch then scored Abate and another error off the bat of Tyler DeSanty (West Haven, Conn.) gave Albertus the 5-0 cushion.
  • Molina allowed just two hits the rest of the game and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the shutout.
