Baseball Leads Early, But Lose To Emerson

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Albertus Magnus Baseball team dropped a 13-5 game to Emerson College on Thursday during the RussMatt Baseball Tournament.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead by plating three runs in the first inning. However, Emerson battled back by scoring 12 runs between the fourth and sixth inning, and they never looked back.

Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run for the Falcons. Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Falcons responded in the bottom half with three runs, courtesy of a fielder's choice by Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.). That was followed by an RBI single by Smith, and then an RBI triple by Eddy Garabito (Norwalk, Conn.). 

  • The Lions then stormed back by piling up 12 runs between the fourth and sixth inning. 

  • The runs started in the fourth inning as the Lions scored on three straight doubles by Blake Benway, Jake Okamoto, and Ethan Gorman. 

  • The Falcons managed to pick up a pair of runs in the fifth, courtesy of an RBI double by Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, Conn.), and an RBI single by Smith. 

  • The Lions answered by putting up four more runs in the sixth inning to put the game away as Charlie Coors hit a two-run single and RBI singles by Okamoto and Gorman.
