HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons got on the board first in the bottom of the inning as Galarza ripped a double to left to score Vance Ward (Norwalk, Conn.), who drew a leadoff walk.
  • Albertus starter Albert Molina (Terryville, Conn.) kept Dean off the scoreboard over the first four innings until the Bulldogs broke through with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. After the first two batters were retired, a walk and two singles by Kyler Lorenz and Ryan Secovich loaded the bases before a walk from Nick Amendolara tied the game, 1-1. Nathan Suncar then drove a ball to the outfield that was misplayed, leading to three more runs making it a 4-1 game. A wild pitch followed to put the Bulldogs up, 5-1.
  • Dean scored four more runs in the top of the seventh as Gavin Goss hit a two-run double to highlight the inning.
  • Albertus had runners in scoring positions in the sixth and seventh innings but were unable to get a run across.
  • The Falcons added their final run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Spataj.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dean scored one in the top of the first inning as the first three hitters were hit by a pitch before a sacrifice fly by Luke Fahey made it a 1-0 game. Toby Marineau (Manchester, Conn.) then struck out the next two batters to hold Dean to just the one run.
  • In the bottom of the first, Ward doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Spataj hit a ball deep in the hole to short and beat out the throw for his 100th career hit at Albertus. Albertus, however stranded runners on second and third.
  • Angelo came into the game after the first two batters reached in the top of the second inning and immediately induced a 3-6-1 double play as the next batter flew out to keep it a one-run game.
  • The Albertus bats broke through in the top of the third with its first run. Rivera walked to open the inning. Two batters later, Spataj launched a towering ball to centerfield for a double to score Rivera to tie the game, 1-1.
  • In the fourth, Angelo induced his second double play of the game after striking out the first batter of the inning to preserve the 1-1 tie.
  • Rivera led off the bottom of the fifth with an infield single, advancing to second on a bunt before stealing third base. Spataj then ripped his second double of the game down the left field line to score Rivera, making it a 2-1 game.
  • Albertus plated one more run in the bottom of the sixth off an error in centerfield by Dean.
  • Angelo closed the door in the top of the seventh, including a strikeout.
