FINAL: Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 12 | Albertus Magnus 6
RECORDS: Albertus (3-13, 0-6 GNAC) | SJC (9-9, 2-4 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albertus scored two runs in the first as Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) singled to lead off the bottom followed by Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.) being hit by a pitch. After a fielder's choice put runners on the corner, Eddy Garabito (Norwalk, Conn.) singled to right to score Espada. Smith followed with an RBI groundout to stale the Falcons to the early 2-0 lead.
- The Monks scored two runs in the top of the second after the bases were loaded with no outs. A wild pitch plated the first run, followed by an RBI single by Vinny O'Leary to make it a 2-2 game. Starting pitcher Nathan Rivera (Windsor, Conn.) was able to get out of the jam giving up just the two runs as he struck out the final two batters of the inning.
- The Falcons went up 5-2 in the bottom of the third thanks to the longball. Smith singled with one out in the inning. Robert Anton (Woodbury, Conn.) was hit by a pitch two batters later to put runners on first and second and Ramos followed with his first homer of the season - and fourth of his career - to left field to make it a 5-2 game.
- SJC answered in a big way, scoring eight runs in the top of the fourth. The Monks loaded the bases with one out and an RBI single from Nic Frink followed by two bases loaded walks tied the game, 5-5. A wild pitch then plated a run, giving SJC a 6-5 lead. Three batters later with the bases loaded, Ryan Kastle hit a grand slam to left field, making it a 10-5 game.
- The Monks added another run in the top of the sixth and Smith answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, his third of the season.
- SJC added the final run in the game on a homer from Michael Wearne.
