HOW IT HAPPENED

  • There was no shortage of offense for the Falcons, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning. The Falcons sent 11 batters to the plate in the first as Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) singled to lead off the inning. After an error put runners on second and third, Garabito drove in a run with a single. Two batters later, Smith singled to score Garabito. Nick Ramos (Mineola, N.Y.) and Telford each had an RBI single later in the inning.
  • Albertus scored one more in the second and then put up another big number with a four-run third inning to take a 10-1 lead. The inning started with back-to-back singles by Telford and Espada, followed by back-to-back doubles by Rivera and Garabito to make it a 9-1 game. Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.) then drove in his second run of the game with his second fielder's choice of the game for the nine-run lead for Albertus.
  • Garabito all but put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with a towering three-run homer over the centerfield fence to make it a 13-1 game.
  • Rivera put on a clinic on the mound as the last eight batters he retired were all via strikeout. Tyler Baldwin (Cromwell, Conn.) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
  • NEC's Jaken Pellerin homered in the top of the fifth and the Falcons added one more run in the bottom of the inning.
