Field Hockey Blanked by Lasell in GNAC Showdown

NEWTON, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team dropped a road Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt to the Lasers of Lasell University on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lasell held possession for most of the first 9:16 of the game, scoring twice by the 9:16 mark to take a 2-0 advantage. Kensie Lennon netted the first goal at the 8:16 mark, while Alyson Barnes found paydirt next exactly one minute later.  

Albertus' first chance of the game came 9:57 into the contest when Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) tallied a shot on goal. After Martin inserted the ball, she got the ball back and spun towards the goal, but the keeper kicked the ball out of the circle to stop the danger. 

The Lasers retook control of the match over the next three minutes, scoring two more times to take a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. Sheridan Blaha scored first at 10:17, while Kait Duarte scored at 12:44.

The Falcons' defense thrived in the second quarter allowing just one goal to send the game into halftime with the Lasers ahead 5-0. Barnes tallied her second goal of the game at 22:59. 

Lasell scored two more goals in the third quarter to build its lead to 7-0 by the 34:01 mark. Albertus answered in the quarter with another shot on goal by Martin. The junior forward brought the ball up the right side of the field, before stopping in the circle and firing a shot that the keeper again kicked away. 

The Lasers put the game away in the fourth quarter, netting three more goals to secure the 10-0 win. 

Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.) had another busy day between the pipes for the Falcons, making 16 saves on 26 shots on goal. Woods has tallied double-digit saves in three of her four appearances.
