Field Hockey Concludes Season with Road Loss to Simmons

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team concluded the 2021 season with a 14-1 road loss to Simmons University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening in Brighton, Mass.

Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) scored the goal for the Falcons in the 47th minute on an assist from Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Sharks took control of the match in the first quarter, scoring four times in the first 15 minutes. Aria Badra netted two goals in the opening quarter, while Sydney Gonyea and Anna Tedeschi scored once.

In the second quarter, Simmons added to its lead with six goals to take a 10-0 lead into the halftime break. Badra capped off a hat trick in the second, while Tedeschi got her second goal of the evening.

With three more goals in the third quarter, the Sharks took a 13-0 advantage into the fourth. However, it was in the fourth when Albertus tallied both of its chances in the contest. The first opportunity for AMC led to a goal, as Martin converted on a penalty corner at the 46:39 mark. Woods inserted the ball to the junior, who calmly scored her second goal of the season.

Albertus' second chance came with 2:45 left on the clock. Alexis Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) attempted a shot inside the arc, but it was turned away by the Sharks' keeper, Emma Sheehan, which sealed the 14-1 win for the home team.
