Field Hockey Scores Twice in Road Setback against Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team dropped a hard-fought contest to the Valiants of Manhattanville College on Thursday afternoon, falling by a final score of 5-2.

Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.) and Alexis Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) each scored goals for the blue-and-white. At the same time, Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) continued her strong season with another valiant effort in the cage, making 10 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Valiants raced out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring two unanswered goals in the first quarter and two more in the second quarter to take a 4-0 advantage into the halftime break.
• Woods netted the game's first goal for AMC in the 49th minute, as she gathered a loose ball in front of the crease and sent a shot by the moving goalie.
• A. Duranleau cut the Falcons' deficit in half, 4-2, 3:45 later. Madison Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) brought the ball up the field and found her sister on the right side of the arc, where she gathered and scored to the goalie's glove side.
• The Valiants halted the Falcons comeback with an insurance goal at the 55:17 mark to clinch a 5-2 victory.

• Montague's 88 saves this season put her in sole possession of second place on the conference leaderboard.

UP NEXT
The Albertus Magnus field hockey team returns home on Saturday, Oct. 1, to play Simmons University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The bout, which will serve as AMC's Senior Day, is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at Celentano Field.
