Field Hockey Falls to Simmons, 8-0, on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team suffered a hard-fought defeat to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Simmons University on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field, falling by a final score of 8-0.  

Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) tallied the lone shot for the Falcons, while Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) made a season-high 25 saves in the cage.  

Prior to the start of today's game, the Albertus field hockey team honored its four-member - Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.), Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.), Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.), and Madison Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) - senior class for their hard work and dedication to the program and in the classroom.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sharks raced out to a 3-0 lead following a pair of goals in the first quarter from Hannah Groves and a goal from Anna Tedeschi.  
  • Simmons added an insurance goal in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. 
  • The Sharks added two more goals in the third quarter to make it a 6-0 match.
  • Simmons added two more insurance goals in the fourth quarter to seal an 8-0 victory.  
  • Montague kept the Falcons within striking distance with another spectacular game, converting 25 of 33 chances into saves.

  • Montague's 25 saves were a season and a career-high for the junior goalkeeper.
