Field Hockey Stumbles to Saint Joseph's (ME) in Conference Clash

STANDISH, ME – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team lost by a final score of 6-0 to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road bout on Saturday morning at the SJC Sports Complex. 

Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) recorded a stellar performance in net for the Falcons as the keeper recorded a career-high 35 saves. Junior Danielle Brodman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) also assisted the Falcons' defense with a defensive save midway through the first quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Monks tested both Albertus' keeper Montague and its backline in the first stanza as the hosts rallied off a total of 13 shots on goal before Morgan Dalton found the back of the cage, giving the hosts the one-goal lead. 
  • The second period saw Saint Joseph's increase its lead to three, 3-0, following two goals from Maya Waryas and Alexa Gutowski.
  • Albertus' defense settled the Monks in the third period by holding the hosts to only one goal off 13 shot attempts, keeping the game in reach, 4-0.
  • The Falcons could not stop the Monks from putting the game out of reach as the hosts scored an additional two goals in the final stanza to secure the conference win, 6-0.
