Balanced Attack Leads Field Hockey to First Win of Season Over Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus field hockey team scored three first-half goals to pick up its first win of the 2022 season, topping Dean College, 3-1, on the road in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Alexis Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) led the way for the Falcons with the team's first and third goals. Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.) tallied AMC's middle goal, while Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) dished out two assists. Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) needed just one save to earn her first collegiate win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons wasted no time in the match, racing out to an early 1-0 lead 5:47 into the first stanza, as A. Duranleau fielded a perfect pass across the goal mouth from Martin and promptly fired it into the cage for the first score of the game.
• Three minutes later, Woods scooped up a deflected shot from teammate Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.) and rifled it past Bulldogs' goalie Mackenzie Fillian to make it a 2-0 game for the blue-and-white.
• AMC added to its advantage midway through the second quarter as A. Duranleau struck again on another assist from Martin, this time burying a shot in the bottom-left corner of the cage.
• A Dean goal thirty seconds later cut the Falcons' lead to two, 3-1, but the blue-and-white remained firm on defense and took a 3-1 advantage into the halftime break.
• The teams traded shots over the third quarter, with Duranleau tallying both of AMC's shots, but neither side was able to add to the score.
• The Falcons' defense continued to excel in the second half, guiding AMC to a 3-1 road victory this afternoon.

• Today's victory is the first for the Falcons in the 2022 season and marks the second in program history.
• The win is also the first for the program under the guidance of Head Coach Danielle Pannone.
• Duranleau has scored three goals this season and is the program's all-time leader in points with 17 (7g, 3a).
• Martin has tallied three assists in 2022 and climbed to second place on the Falcons' all-time points leaderboard with 14 (4g, 6a).
• After today's game, Woods has tallied two career goals, both of which were scored in her senior campaign.

The Albertus field hockey team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 14, for a 6:30 p.m. matchup against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College at Celentano Field. The evening contest will be a part of the College's Homecoming & Family Weekend.
