Montague Breaks Field Hockey Single Season Save Record in Hard Fought Loss to USJ

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to conference-rival University of Saint Joseph's Conn. on Tuesday evening at Celentano Field.

Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) put the exclamation point on a spectacular season with her 10th double-digit save performance of the year, making 18 saves in a complete-game effort. With 18 saves today, Montague broke the program's single-season saves record with 222 in 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Blue Jays struck first as Maya Tomo found daylight between defenders and fired a shot into the back corner of the cage to give the Blue Jays the early 1-0 lead.
• The Blue Jays continued to mount the pressure, firing off four shots and a penalty corner over the remaining 10 minutes of the first quarter, but the AMC defense remained stout, denying its crosstown rivals the score.
• The teams transitioned into the halftime break with the Blue Jays holding the 1-0 lead.
• The Blue Jays continued to run their offense in the third stanza, firing off 12 shots and six penalty corners, but Montague continued to be a wall in the cage and turned the visitors away without a score.
• USJ held on to earn the road victory, as neither team scored in the fourth quarter, sealing a 1-0 Blue Jays' triumph
