Eight Players Named to the 2022 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad

2022 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad Release

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team placed eight student-athletes on the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Associations (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad, as announced by the association earlier this afternoo. Seniors Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.), Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.) and Madison Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.) was joined by junior Danielle Brodman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), sophomore Alexis Duranleau (Wheelock, Vt.), and freshmen Laurel Maus (Woodbridge, Conn.), Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.), and Paige Scheid (West Orange, N.J.).

The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors undergraduate collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.

Woods started in all 14 games for the blue-and-white and finished the fall campaign with four points behind two goals. The New London, N.H. native, scored her first career goal against Manhattanville College, while tallying her second in the Falcons' 3-1 road victory over Dean College.

Martin appeared and started in all 14 games for Albertus and finished second the team in points with five, following one goal and three assists. Two of Martin's three assists came in the Falcons' road win over Dean, while the final assist came against Regis (Mass.) College. She concluded her senior year leading the team with 18 shots, including 14 shots on goal.

M. Duranleau started in 11 games for the Falcons and tallied a career-high three points on one goal and one assist, ranking her third on the team in points. She netted her first career goal against Regis (Mass.) before tallying her second career assist at Manhattanville.

Brodman made two starts over four appearances for the blue-and-white this fall. On the season, she made one defensive save.

A. Duranleau started and appeared in 11 games and finished her sophomore season with a team-leading three goals for six points. The Wheelock, Vt. native scored twice in the Falcons' win over Dean and once against Manhattanville. She also finished the year with nine shots, including four on goal.

Maus started in all 14 games for the Falcons as a defender. She helped the Falcons' backline to a .753 save percentage and a 5.09 goals-against average.  

Tarzia started for the Falcons in all 14 games of her debut season in 2022. She recorded her first career-point behind an assist against Regis (Mass.). She finished the year with nine shots, including eight shots on goal.

Scheid saw action in 14 games, including seven starts for the Falcons in her rookie season. She concluded the fall campaign with two shot attempts.
