Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Loss to the Monks

NEWTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team fell to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Monks held the advantage in the first and second quarter, accumulating five shots. Falcon goalie, Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.), made two saves while one shot went wide and one was blocked. The Monks were also able to earn five penalty corners in the first half.

SJC drew seven penalty corners in the third quarter, but were unable to score due to the immense presence of the Albertus defenders. Helwig made two saves in the quarter, while one shot was blocked. The Falcons were also able to draw one penalty corner.

SJC accumulated a whopping ten penalty corners in the final quarter of the game, pushing the Falcons to their limit. The gateway broke for the Monks at the 52:18 mark when Sadie Tirrel crossed the ball to Isabella Littler to score the lone goal of the game. Albertus found its best opportunity in the last minute of the game when Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) hit a strongly paced shot, but it was saved by the Monks goalie, Kassidy Collins.
