HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first period, the Falcons struck first with Gootjes first goal of the game and of her career at the 18:34 mark in the second period. Gootjes took a pass in the center of the box from Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.) and stuffed it past Manhattanville goaltender, Cat Morgan to give Albertus the 1-0 lead.

The lead was short lived as Keira Guinan scored back-to-back goals at the 23:56 and 25:59 mark for the Valiants, giving them the 2-1 lead heading into halftime. The first goal came as Felicity Williams raced down the field and found a cutting Guinan in the box who put the ball past Albertus goaltender, Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.) to tie the game. Her second goal came in the same place, this time taking control of a loose ball and giving Manhattanville their first lead of the game.

Williams added a goal in the third to put the Valiants up, 3-1. Gootjes responded with her second goal of the game just 1:08 into the final frame. Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.) took a slapshot at the top of the box that deflected off of Clark to Gootjes, who made it a 3-2 game.

Alyssa Damore gave the Valiants a two-goal lead again with just under ten minutes remaining with a shot from inside the box.

Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.) got in the scoring action to close the gap at the 52:16 mark. On the goal, Dellacroce earned her second assist of the game making a pass inside the box to Tarzia, who backhanded her team-leading third goal of the season.
