NEW HAVEN, Conn. — First-year Jess Trochio (Holtsville, N.Y.) connected for her first goal on the season keeping the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team close in the opening period but Ramapo College (N.J.) outscored the Falcons 7-1 in the season opener at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ramapo netted a pair of goals in the first quarter before Trochio cut the deficit within one at 13:14 off a foul by the Roadrunners with the assistance of Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.). In the net for Albertus, newcomer Ella Welton (Cliffwood, N.J.) denied three opposing shots to keep the score close in the first period, while freshman Alex Moore (Hamden, Conn.) blocked a Ramapo attempt at 10:18.
The visitors tacked on five more goals through the final three periods. Victoria Chavez opened the contest with a tally off the stick of Kayla Gray and Chavez scored her second goal at the beginning of the second period.
