Field Hockey Drops GNAC Opener to Lasell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Ella Welton (Cliffwood, N.J. ) stood tall in two scoreless quarters for the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team, but back-to-back goals in the second and fourth periods propelled the visiting Lasell University Lasers past the Falcons, 4-0, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Celentano Field on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the opening twenty minutes, Albertus kept the Lasers off the board with a pair of saves by Welton and a blocked shot by Rosianys Rivera (New Haven, Conn.) before Alice Rourke managed to slice past her defenders in front of the net as Megan Crabtree set up the shot with a quick pass. Five minutes later, the visitors for their second tally in the second quarter off a penalty corner by Jacquelyn Scopa, who managed to tap in a saved shot from Paige Jette. Lasell tacked on a pair of consecutive goals in the fourth quarter.

Less than three minutes into the contest the Falcons had a chance to score as Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.) darted down the field toward the net before drilling the ball at the lower right corner, but goalkeeper Courtney Tello barely managed to kick the almost goal out of bounds
