NEW LONDON, N.H. — Despite Ella Welton's (Cliffwood, N.J.) 14 saves in the box, the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Colby-Sawyer College, 5-0, on the road on Saturday.
THE BASICS
FINAL: Colby-Sawyer College 5 | Albertus Magnus 0
RECORDS: Albertus (0-5, 0-3 GNAC) | Colby-Sawyer (4-3, 2-1 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colby-Sawyer came out aggressive on offense as Welton denied a pair of host shots in the first two and a half minutes. Welton redirected a Brooke Farquhar shot six minutes into the opening quarter, but the Charger forward found her own ricocheted attempt and managed to tip it in four seconds later.
- Amber DeJonge (Grand Rapids, Mich.) attempted the first shot for Albertus, but goalkeeper Ashlee Blashock was there to swat it away nine minutes into the first, followed by a saved shot off the stick of Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.) seven seconds later.
- Tarzia had three straight penalty corners in the first period, but the Falcons couldn't connect with the back of the net.
- Welton stood tall for five more Charger shots, but Ashley Pelletier managed to squeak past the first-year off a penalty corner by the home team's Aili Carney with 36 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
- With less than a minute remaining in the half, Tarzia drew a penalty corner as DeJonge almost put the Falcons' on the board before Blashock turned the shot away, however, DeJonge was awarded a penalty stroke that just went wide of the net.
- The Chargers tallied three more goals across the third and fourth periods.
