Trocchio And Helmbold Score, But Field Hockey Loses To ECSU

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Jess Trocchio (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Mariya Helmbold (Bellmawr, N.J.) each scored a goal and Melina Tarzia (Stamford, Conn.) had two assists, but the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team lost a 7-2 non-conference game to Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) on Thursday afternoon.

Ella Welton (Cliffwood, N.J.) had three saves for the Falcons in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors scored three goals in the first period, two of which came by Emma Sanson, who had a hat trick in the game. Rebecca Minaya scored the other goal in the period.
  • ECSU went into the half leading 5-0 after goals from Katie Harrington and Ryen Rossi less than two minutes apart.
  • After Sanson and Minaya scored their third and second goalsof the game, respectively in the third period, the Falcons would get on the board twice in the fourth.
  • Trocchio scored her third goal of the season to put the Falcons on the board with just more than four minute remaining. On the goal, Tarzia found Trocchio on the third consecutive penalty corner from the Falcons in a 26 second span to make it a 7-1.
  • Helmbold followed with her third of the season, putting home a rebound off a shot from Tarzia with just over a minute remaining.
