Falcons Win Seventh Straight Remain in First Place in GNAC

New Haven, CT - On Saturday afternoon, the Albertus Magnus College Falcons won 81-76 late in the second half to remain in first place in the GNAC.  The Falcons found themselves trailing 49-40 at halftime as St. Joe's (ME) ended the first half on a 9-0 run.  Albertus responded with an 8-2 run to open the second half cutting the lead to 51-48.  The game was back and forth until the Falcons went on a 9-2 run with 6:53 remaining in the game to take a 79-70 lead with 3:30 left in the contest.  St. Joe's then went on a run of their own missing a late three by sophomore guard Christopher Petzy (East Kingston, NH) that would have tied the game with just 12 seconds remaining.  Senior guard Sha'Ron Young (New Haven, CT) then swished both free-throws to seal the 81-76 victory.  Albertus was led by sophomore forward Ray Askew (Hamden, CT) and his game high 23 points and team high seven rebounds.  Sophomore guard Byron Reaves (Hamden, CT) chipped in 20 points and six rebounds while Young added 19 points on the afternoon.  St. Joe's (ME) received a team high 26 points from Petzy and 23 points from sophomore guard Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY).  Albertus improves 14-4, 10-1 GNAC while St. Joe's (ME) drops to 13-5, 8-3 GNAC.  The Falcons look to make it eight straight wins as they travel to Norwich University on Tuesday night with a 7:00 pm tip-off.
