Falcons Drop Heartbreaker to St. Joseph's College (ME) 86-83

New Haven, CT - The Falcons missed two three-point attempts late in the closing seconds to drop a heartbreaking loss to visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent St. Joseph's College (ME) on Monday afternoon 86-83.  The game was for sole possesion of first place in the GNAC as each team held a 5-1 conference record entering the game.

The Falcons held a slight 38-35 advantage at the half in a game that featured several lead changes throughout.

The second half saw visiting St. Joe's (ME) shoot 8-12 from beyond the three-point line and hold a very slight edge over Albertus until late in the second half when the Falcons press led to a 6-0 run and the 83-80 with just over a minute remaining.  Senior guard Tyler Kelley (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) forced a turnover and then completed an old fashioned three point play to give St. Joe's the 84-83 lead with 22.7 seconds remaining.  The Falcons got an open look from beyond the arc and missed forcing them to foul to get the ball back.  After two made free-throws the Falcons had a chance to tie the game down 86-83 but failed to convert there three-point attempt.

Albertus was led by junior forward Ray Askew (New Haven, CT/Career) and his team high 29 points and game high 14 rebounds.  Freshman forward Darius Watson chipped in 20 points, while sophomores Jefferson Lora (Bronx, NY/Lyman Hall) and Zach Dugas (Monroe, CT/St Luke's) each added eight points and 12 points respectively.

St. Joseph's College (ME) was led by Kelley in his outstanding shooting night scoring a game high 32 points including 7-7 from beyond the three point line.  Junior forward Zach O'Brien (Schnectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) added 21 points while junior guard Chris Petzy (Kensington, NH/Exeter) chipped in 17 points including sinking the last two free throws of the contest.  St. Joe's (ME) shot an incredible 14-22 from beyond the arc on the afternoon.

Albertus drops to 7-6, 5-2 GNAC while St. Joe's (ME) improves to 9-4, 6-1 GNAC.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday as they host Trinity College at 7:00 pm.
