Askew Becomes All-Time Leading Scorer in Albertus History

With 21 points in tonight's contest, Albertus Magnus men's basketball senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) became the program's all-time leading scorer, surpassing the previous record of 2,234 held by Tim Russell '05.

At the 5:27 mark of the first half in tonight's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal, Askew hit a deep three-pointer to give the senior the program record.

After playing 28 minutes in tonight's contest, Askew has tallied 2,244 career points. This season, he is averaging a team-high 24.3 points per game, while he has registered 19 games with 20 or more points.

Russell, the GNAC Player of the Year in 2005, had a stellar four-year career at Albertus Magnus as he held both the program and GNAC scoring records up until this season. He was inducted into the Albertus Magnus Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2011 for his accomplishments as well.

Earlier this season, Askew became one of only four players in the history of the GNAC to score over 2,000 points, while his 1,164 career rebounds makes him just one of two players in league history to grab over 1,000 boards. With his career rebounding tally, Askew leads both Albertus and the GNAC in that category.
