The Falcons shot 72.2-percent from the free-throw line in the second half and netted 5-of-6 in the last 2:30 of the contest as the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team edged Worcester State University 84-82 on Wednesday night.

After Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) missed on his second free-throw attempt with 12 seconds left on the clock, the Lancers' Dane Jobst pushed the ball down the court and fired a three-pointer, which was blocked by Jefferson Lora (Bronx, N.Y.) before going out of bounds. With one second left, Clayton Timas missed a lay-up to end the game in regulation.

The Falcons are now 8-1 after tonight's victory, while Worcester State moves to 6-4 on the year.

Zach Dugas (Monroe, Conn.) led the Falcons off the bench as he scored 15 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Dugas, who also dished out four assists, led five Falcons in double figures as Sanders added 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Senior guard Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) and Lora both tallied 12 points, while Lora led all Falcons with nine boards. Jackson finished the contest with six rebounds in 26 minutes of work.

James Jennings (Stratford, Conn.) contributed with 13 points as he hit two key free-throws with 1:39 on the clock to give the Falcons the lead for good. James Economopoulos (Wallingford, Conn.) added five points, three steals and five assists for the Falcons.

The Falcons led by three at the half at 40-37 led by eight points and five rebounds from Lora. Albertus held the lead throughout the entire opening frame as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead five minutes into the contest.

Seven Worcester State turnovers in the opening five minutes helped the Falcons as Albertus went on to score 15 points off 17 Lancer miscues in the first half.

The Falcons' largest lead of the game came at the 7:23 mark of the first half as Lora sank a basket to give Albertus an 11-point advantage.

Albertus is now unbeaten in its last 27 regular-season games against Division III opponents dating back to last year's loss vs. Medgar Evers on Dec. 6.

The Falcons will host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Friday, Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
