Falcons to Host St. Joe's in GNAC Championship Saturday

The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team will take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, March 1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship game in the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center in New Haven. The game is at 1:00 p.m.

The Falcons enter the contest with a 25-2 overall record as the No. 1 seed in the tournament and the 14th team in the country, while the Monks are 18-9 on the year as the second-seed in the tournament.

Saint Joseph's is the only team to defeat in the Falcons this season in Division III competition as the Falcons picked up their other loss at Division I opponent Central Connecticut State University.

Albertus is led by Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) with 21.9 points per game and a 51.7% shooting percentage from the floor.  The Monks are led by Matthew Medeiros with an 18.6 points per game average.

The Falcons are 7-8 all-time against the Monks and are 5-1 in the last six meetings between the two programs dating back to the 2011-12 season.  In their two previous meetings this season, Albertus took an 86-78 win over the Monks on Jan. 18 in New Haven before falling to Saint Joseph's on the road by a score of 74-55.

Admission is free to the Saturday contest.  The first 400 fans in attendance will also receive a free Albertus t-shirt.
