Providence, R.I. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team fell on the road to Johnson & Wales, 113-58, on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside the Wildcat Center. With the setback, the Falcons move to 9-3 on the year and 5-2 in league tilts, while the Wildcats won their program-best 13th straight game to improve to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

Johnson & Wales shot the lights out, knocking down 60 percent of their shots from the field, while holding the visiting Falcons to just 36 shooting. The physical contest saw the two teams combine to take 61 free throws. At the charity stripe, the hosts knocked down 30-of-38 attempts, while the guests hit 11-of-23. The biggest difference in the game was three-point shooting, as JWU hit 11-of-19, while AMC converted just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.

During the opening half, JWU held a slight, 18-16, edge on the boards and forced 12 Falcon turnovers. Johnson & Wales broke open an 11-10 game with a 23-5 run over a 10-minute stretch after a pair of free throws from Robert Lewis gave the hosts a 34-15 advantage. The two squads would trade baskets for the remainder of the half as the Wildcats took a 49-34 edge into the break.

The host Wildcats came out firing in the second stanza and stretched their lead thanks to a strong-shooting performance and a stingy defensive effort. Johnson & Wales hit just under 64 percent of their shots over the final 20 minutes to pull away and earn the victory.

Freshman forward Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played well in defeat for the Falcons, recording his ninth double-double of the season courtesy of a 19-point, 13-rebound performance. The 6-5 forward shot an effective 8-of-12 from the field, while recording three blocks and two steals on the defensive end. Sophomore guard Luciano Martinez (East Hartford, Conn.) contributed 12 points off the bench for the Falcons and classmate Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) poured in 11 points.

The Wildcats saw four players score in double figures led by Quarry Greenway with a game-high 37 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Greenway also did an impressive job getting to the foul line, hitting 16-of-21 free-throw attempts. Sharp-shooter Tom Garrick netted 17 points for the hosts thanks to hitting five shots from three-point range.

Johnson & Wales was dominant on the glass, outrebounding Albertus Magnus, 48-29. The Wildcat full-court press and swarming defense also recorded 12 steals in the contest.

The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for the Falcons against the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales scored their first victory against Albertus Magnus since February of 2013.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, January 16, with a home conference clash against Mount Ida at 3:00 pm. The Falcons have won nine straight meetins with the Mustangs and are a perfect 7-0 all-time versus Mount Ida at home.
