Nashua, N.H. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team erased a four-point halftime deficit to score a 92-82 road victory against Rivier on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Confernce (GNAC) action at Muldoon Gymnasium.

With their fifth straight victory, the Falcons improved to 14-3 overall and 10-2 in league games, while the Raiders suffered their second home GNAC setback in a row to drop to 3-17 on the year and 3-10 in conference tilts.

Albertus Magnus freshman forward Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a force in the paint all night, scoring a game-high 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. Lovell also pulled down nine rebounds and added four assists to help the Falcons complete the season sweep of Rivier.

The Falcons opened the second half on a 6-0 run thanks to a trey and an old fashioned three-point play from sophomore guard Chaunce Dunbar (Windsor, Conn.) to take the lead and the wind out of the Rivier sails. Over the final 20 minutes of play, the guests outscored the hosts by 14 points thanks to shooting 63 percent (17-of-27) from the floor and forcing seven Raider turnovers.

With the score knotted at 68 and nine minutes remaining in regulation, AMC went on a 15-5 run to build a lead they would not relinquish. Albertus pulled away thanks to going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe and controlling the boards.

Albertus Magnus struggled from the free-throw line in the first half, converting just seven of 15 attempts. The visitors came out strong, jumping out to an early seven-point lead over the first two and a half minutes. During the spurt, Lovell scored four points and pulled down a pair of offensive rebounds, while Dunbar connected on a trey to give the guests an 11-4 edge. Rivier would answer with a run of their own to take a 16-15 lead with 12:45 left in the half courtesy of a three-pointer from Isaiah Ruffin.

Later in the opening frame, Rivier would go on to lead by as many as seven on two different occasions. Over the final two minutes of the half, Albertus Magnus closed on a 5-2 run and held the hosts without a field goal to enter the break trailing by four at 43-39.

Albertus Magnus sophomore forward Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) recorded a double-double thanks to a 16-point, 11-rebound performance. Falcon Senior wing Marc Wilson (Jersey City, N.J.) added 18 points and Dunbar provided 15 points in his 20 minutes of action.

Five different Raiders reached the double-digit plateau as sophomore Victor DaVilla (Guaynabo, P.R.) registered the team high of 18 points. Senior Anthony Simmons (Stamford, Conn.) chipped in with 14 points and Ruffen had 12 points. Both junior Kevin Francis (Cromwell, Conn.) and senior Cullen Donovan (Wethersfield, Conn.) contributed with 11 point each.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, February 6, with a road conference clash versus Lasell at 4:00 pm. The Falcons are looking to avenge a setback against the Lasers earlier this season in New Haven.
