Northfield, Vt. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team raced past host Norwich, 77-64, on Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Andrews Gymnasium.

The Falcons never trailed in the contest to get back on the winning track and improve to 15-5 overall and 11-4 in conference play, while the Cadets dropped their third straight to fall to 6-16 on the year and 3-12 in league tilts.

The balanced Albertus Magnus attack saw four different players score in double figures led by sophomore Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) with a game-high 18 points. Walters shot 8-of-14 from the field and added four assists and a game-best 13 rebounds. Junior transfer Grant Ellis (Newark, N.J.) added 16 off the bench for the guests courtesy of knocking down three shots from beyond the arc and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 11-2 run capped by a pair of free throws from freshman forward Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) over the first five minutes of play. The hosts would battle back to tie the contest with 6:17 left in the opening half following a trey from guard Ryan Booth. The two sqads closed out the first frame by trading baskets before a free throw from sophomore Marshall James (Bronx, N.Y.) gave AMC a 34-33 advantage heading into halftime.

The visitors struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 33 percent from the field (11-of-33). Albertus Magnus maintained its lead by getting to the free-throw line 16 times and forcing 17 Norwich turnovers.

The guests began the second half on an 11-0 run capped by a free throw from Lovell to give Albertus Magnus a 45-33 lead with 17:11 left in the game. The Falcon lead would balloon too as many as 16 at 68-52 with 7:31 on the clock after a layup from sophomore guard Luciano Martinez (East Hartford, Conn.). With under five minutes remaining in regulation, Norwich cut the AMC lead to seven at 70-63, but Albertus would answer with back-to-back jumpers from Ellis and Walters to build back its double-digit edge.

Lovell and senior guard Marc Wilson (Jerysey City, N.J.) were the other Falcons to score in double figures, netting 13 and 14, respectively. The duo combined to shoot an efficient 10-of-16, while Lovell also registered six rebounds and one block.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, February 13, with a home conference clash against No. 14 Johnson & Wales at 1:00 pm. The Falcons are looking to avenge a road setback versus the Wildcats earlier this season.
