Lovell Named GNAC Rookie of the Week for the 11th Time

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman men's basketball player Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was honored as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Lovell continues his impressive first season on campus, earning the accolade for the league-best 11th time. He averaged over 15 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks per game, while shooting over 61 percent from the field as the Falcons went 2-1 last week in conference action.

The 6-5 forward opened the week with a 19-point, 18-rebound performance in a setback versus Anna Maria. In the loss, he knocked down 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. He scored 13 points and added six rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting in a midweek win at Norwich. Lovell ended the week with 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in a 102-94 win against No. 14 Johnson & Wales.

He now has a conference-leading 13 double-doubles. Lovell leads the GNAC and ranks fifth in the country in rebound per game (12.0), while also leading the league and ranking sixth in the country in field goal percentage (66.0%).

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, February 16, with a road conference clash against Mount Ida at 6:00 pm. The Falcons are looking to complete the season sweep versus the Mustangs, having taken the first meeting between the two, 98-82, in mid-January.
