Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman men's basketball player Damian Grant (Waterbury, Conn.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
For the second straight week, the Falcons saw a first-year player earn weekly recognition after Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Norwalk, Conn.) was tabbed as Rookie of the Week on November 21st.
Grant made the most of his first career start last week for Albertus Magnus, scoring 16 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field. The 6-6 forward also connected on 4-of-5 free-throw attempts in a 90-78 road win against Fitchburg State in non-conference play. He was a force in the post for Albertus Magnus all evening, grabbing four rebounds, blocking two shots and recording a steal.
Grant and the Falcons return to action on Tuesday, November 29, with a non-conference showdown against Old Westbury that is slated to begin at 6:00 pm. The contest is the 2016-17 home opener for the Falcons and marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
