NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team suffered its third loss of the young season as the Falcons fell on the road to in-state foe Mitchell College, 77-74, in non-conference play inside the Yarnall Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus jumped out to an early advantage, leading Mitchell by seven, 11-4, three minutes into the first half.
  • The Falcons kept the Mariners at bay for the next three minutes of play, holding the hosts to just four points while extending their lead to 11, 19-8.
  • A short spurt by Mitchell cut the deficit to five, 19-14, but a 6-0 run by Albertus pushed its lead back up to double-digits, 25-14, with 11:54 remaining.
  • The game's momentum began to shift in favor of the Mariners as the hosts trailed by one, 27-26, following an impressive 12-2 run.
  • Albertus maintained its lead until the three-minute mark when Mitchell's Brandon Lee made the layup to even the game at 34-all and forced Coach Oliver to call a timeout.
  • Both teams batted through two ties out of the break, with Mitchell coming up on top, 43-41, at the half.
  • Despite leading by six, 47-41, to start off the second, Albertus rallied back as a pair of free throws from Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) sparked a Falcons' run that tied the game, once again, 49-49.
  • Over the next five minutes of play, Albertus and Mitchell countered, each made basket with one of its own until a Dawkins layup gave the Falcons an eight-point cushion, 61-53, with 12:27 left to play.
  • With the clock winding down, Albertus started to see its lead begin to dwindle as Mitchell regained the lead, 71-70, heading into the final three minutes of play.
  • The Falcons' final lead of the game came at the 1:27 mark as Dawkins hit a jumper to make it a one-possession game, 74-73, but a layup and a pair of free throws from Mitchell sealed the non-conference for the hosts.
