THE BASICS
FINAL: Albertus Magnus 79 | SUNY Delhi 70
RECORDS: Albertus (2-5) | SUNY Delhi (2-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Delhi connected for the first bucket of the night off a jump shot by Isiah Barnes at 18:22 followed by a game-tying layup by Kevin Crawford (Bridgeport, Conn.) less than a minute later. After a travel by the Broncos, Albertus inbounded the ball before Serrano (Waterbury, Conn.) passed the ball to Crawford waiting in front of half-court, who then waded through defenders to the basket.
- The teams traded baskets through the next nine minutes as SUNY Delhi narrowly led for the majority of the time until back-to-back jumpers by Daniels put the Falcons up, 18-16 at 7:45 in the first half. The score continued to bounce back and forth, including a trio of ties over three minutes of action.
- The Falcons went on a 6-0 run kickstarted by a free throw by Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.), followed by five straight points by Tanksely for a 31-25 Albertus advantage.
- Three-straight free throws and a three-pointer by the Broncos cut the deficit to within two before Hinnant connected for a layup while getting fouled. He made the free throw to grow the Albertus lead to 36-31.
- SUNY Delhi closed out the final 38 seconds with four points to shorten the gap to one, but the Falcons continued to lead 36-35 before heading into the locker room.
- Hinnant opened the second half with a layup to go up by three, but Jason Tagios kept the game close, 38-37, with a layup at 18:19.
- With the game tied at 44-44, Daniels hit back-to-back jumpers while Taufick Aziz (Ghana/Bronx, N.Y.) hit a three as the Falcons went on a 16-8 run to take a 60-52 lead with 10:04 left. The stretch included five free throws and layups by Hinnant and Serrano.
- Barnes' jumper off a defensive rebound by Tagios brought the score within two, but a dunk by Tanksley sparked another 5-0 stretch. Daniels nabbed the steal after a turnover by the Broncos before sending it to Aziz who fed Tanksley for the slam. On the next possession, Daniels connected for two and drew a foul to extend the lead to 66-59 at the 6:41 mark
- Albertus never let SUNY Delhi get any closer than seven points the rest of the way as Hinnant scored six of the final 13 points for the Falcons.
