Men's Golf Drops Season-Opening Dual Match Against Mitchell

New Haven, Conn. – In their first-ever varsity dual match, the Albertus Magnus College men's golf team fell to visiting Mitchell on Friday afternoon at Alling Memorial Golf Course. The Mariners carded a team-total of 345 to top the Falcons aggregate score of 420 on the par-72 6,248-yard track.

Mitchell's Andrew Abbott topped teammate Matt Shea by two-strokes to earn low medalist honors. Abbott fired a six-over 78 and Shea shot an 80. The low scorer for the hosts was junior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) with an 87. After the front-nine, Macchia settled into a groove and played the back just two strokes over par. On the day, the third-year righty carded a trio of birdies.

Rounding out the top-five were Matt Grudgen and Ryan Swartz of the Mariners. Grudgen entered the clubhouse with a 91 and Swartz was five shots behind his pace.

Falcon sophomore southpaw Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) finished his first competitive round of the fall with 98. Schatz had one par on the day and it came on the par-4 fifth. Rounding out the scoring for Albertus was junior Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) with a 108, senior Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) carded a 127 and freshman Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.) fired a 136.

Albertus returns to action on Friday, September 24, with a home dual match against Eastern Nazarene at noon.
