Men's Golf Tops Eastern Nazarene For First Win in Program History

New Haven, Conn. – Junior No. 1 Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) fired a three-over par 75 to earn low medalist honors and lead the Albertus Magnus men's golf team past Eastern Nazarene in a dual match on Thursday afternoon at Alling Memorial Golf Course. The Falcons carded a team total of 356 to earn the first varsity dual-match victory in program history.

As a team, Albertus shaved nearly 100 strokes off their score from the season opener. Every player in the lineup improved their score, including senior Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) knocking a team-best 20 strokes off his last round.

Macchia paced the Falcons for the second straight match. On the opening nine, the 5-10 right-hander carded an even-par 36, highlighted by a chip in from 90 yards for eagle on the par-four eighth hole. On the day, Macchia recorded a match-high 10 pars.

Albertus Magnus junior Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) finished second overall by one-stroke thanks to a 92. After a rocky start, Donnan settled down and registered four pars. The third-year righty finished strong, parring both the 17th and 18th holes. Falcon sophomore southpaw Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) tied with Eastern's Connor Simpson for third-place with a 92. Schatz had three pars on the front nine, including one on the par-four 325-yard ninth.

Rounding out the scorers for the Falcons were Pellegrino in fifth with a 98 and freshman Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.) tied for seventh with a 119.

Albertus returns to action this weekend, September 26-27, competing in the two-day, 36-hole Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms and being contested at the par-70 Elmcrest Golf Course in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
