Macchia Finishes in Second to Lead Men's Golf at Westfield State Invitational

Westfield, Mass. – Junior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) finished in solo second with a two-over par 73 to lead the Albertus Magnus College men's golf team to a ninth–place finish at the Westfield State Invitational on Thursday. The one-day event was contested at the par-71, 6,438-yard Tekoa Country Club and featured 10 teams.

As a group, the Falcons shot an aggregate total of 383 and finished 30-strokes behind eighth-place Emmanuel.

Following 18 holes of action, Macchia entered the clubhouse tied for the lead with Tom Sheran of Rhode Island College. On the first playoff hole, which happened to be the par-4 17th, Sheran rolled in a par putt to earn low individual medalist honors. The second-place finish was a personal best for Macchia and a program-record for highest individual result.

Sophomore Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) finished second on the Falcons with a 102. Senior Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) and junior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) tied for 44th as each carded a 104. Rounding out the scorers for the Falcons was junior Tyler Donnan in 47th with a 108.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, October 12, with a road dual match versus in-state rival Mitchell.
