Men's Golf Finishes Third at the Mitchell Invitational

Groton, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team finished third with a team total of 357 at the Mitchell Invitational on Monday afternoon. The one-day, 18-hole event featured three teams and was contested at the par-71 Shennecossett Golf Course.

As a team, the Falcons were four strokes behind second-place Mitchell.

Junior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) had another strong performance for Albertus Magnus, carding a 79 to finish in a tie for second. During his round, Macchia produced nine pars and one birdie, while shooting second in the field (even par) on the par 5's.

Sophomore Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) had his best round of the fall for the Falcons, finishing in sixth with an 89. Schatz carded a team-best two birdies and two pars on the day. The two birdies were a career-high for the southpaw and were the second-highest total in the field.

Senior Anthony Pellegrino (Branford, Conn.) entered the clubhouse in solo possession of 10th-place with a 94. The 6-0 righty registered four pars throughout the round and tied for fifth in the field in par-5 scoring (two-over par).

Rounding out the field for the Falcons in their final tune up before the conference championship were juniors Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) and Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.). Donnan landed in a tie for 11th with a 95, just one-shot behind the pace set by Pellegrino, while Moore ended the day in 14th with a 101.

Albertus Magnus returns to action this weekend, October 17-18, competing in the two-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship.
