North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team is in ninth-place after the opening round of the 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons shot a team total of 385 during the first round of the two-day, 36-hole event which is being contested at the par 72 Allendale Country Club.
Rhode Island College shot an aggregate score of 313 to hold a six-stroke lead over second-place Worcester State.
Leading the way for Falcons on Saturday was junior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) with a six-over-par 78. Macchia entered the clubhouse in a seven-way tie for first-place. In his first appearance at the conference championship, he will look to earn low individual medalist honors tomorrow.
AMC junior Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) landed in a tie for 35th with a first round score of 91. Sophomore lefty Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) ended the opening round in 43rd with a 102. Rounding out the field for the Falcons were junior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.). Moore sits in 44th thanks to a 114 and Thomas is in 45th courtesy of a 122.
Albertus Magnus concludes the GNAC Championship on Sunday, October 18, with 18 holes.
