Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at The GNAC Championship

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's golf team ended their first-ever trip to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in ninth-place, courtesy of carding a final round aggregate score of 388 on Sunday afternoon. The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by UMass Dartmouth and contested at the par-72 Allendale Country Club.

Rhode Island College shot a two-day total of 635 to score a nine-stroke victory over Worcester State. As a team, the Falcons shot a tournament total of 773, following an opening round 385 on Saturday with a 388 on Sunday.

Junior Aaron Macchia (Utica, N.Y.) was the low scorer for Albertus Magnus, carding a closing round 85 to finish in a tie for 12th with a two-day score of 163. Macchia registered two pars on the opening nine holes and four pars on the back. On the day, he recorded two birdies, one on par-4 tenth and one on the 18th.

Junior Tyler Donnan (Meriden, Conn.) finished the event with a 98 to land in 40th. During the final round, he carded four pars. Sophomore lefty Zach Schatz (East Haven, Conn.) shaved seven strokes off his first round score on Sunday, finishing with a 95 to sit in 42nd. Schatz had three pars on the front nine and one on the back.

Rounding out the field for the Falcons was junior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Elijah Thomas (New Haven, Conn.). Moore finished in 44th thanks to a final round 110 and Thomas landed in 45th courtesy of a 132 on Sunday.

Albertus Magnus concludes the season with a dual match against Johnson & Wales on Friday, October 23, at Alling Memorial Golf Course in New Haven.
