NEW HAVEN, Conn. – History was made for Albertus Magnus College in 2019-20, as the newly-started men's ice hockey team set off on its first varsity campaign over the winter season. The Falcons opened its program with a 4-18-2 overall record in a memorable season.

The Falcons opened the 2019-20 campaign on the road with a pair of games against Division II foe St. Michael's College. Albertus dropped the opener after the Purple Knights netted the game-winner with 15 seconds left in the contest to steal a 2-1 win. Freshman Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec) tallied the first goal in program history for the Falcons. The second game of the twin bill was just as close as the first, with the two teams battling to a 2-2 draw.

Albertus continued to make history on November 8, when it christened the newly-renovated Ralph Walker Skating Rink with its first home game against Anna Maria College. For the second straight contest, the Falcons skated to a draw, 1-1, with both teams scoring goals in the second period. Alexander Lazier (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) netted the program's first goal on their new home ice at Ralph Walker.

The Falcons continued to try and find their footing for the remainder of the 2019 portion of their schedule. Albertus dropped eight straight games to end the year. The Falcons posted multiple goals twice during the rough stretch, both coming against challenging NESCAC foes Connecticut College (5 goals) and Colby College (3 goals).

The turn of the calendar came was just what the Falcons needed, as the team picked up the first two wins in program history in the first week of 2020. Albertus' first victory was a thrilling 3-2 overtime triumph over Fitchburg State in the consolation game of the Codfish Bowl Tournament, hosted by UMass Boston. Lazier netted two of the Falcons' three goals, including the game-winner just 14 seconds into overtime.

Albertus rode that momentum into a 4-2 victory over Western New England University for its first-ever home win on January 7. The Falcons exploded for three goals in the second period, with Robert Eichelberger (Odessa, Fla.), Jack Hannan (Kent, Conn.), and Matthew Capisciolto (Russell, Ontario) all finding the back of the net. Cameron Weitzman (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec) iced the game in the third period with an empty-netter.

The Falcons' win streak was halted with a home split against King's (Pa.) College. After falling to the Monarchs in the first game, 4-1, Albertus bounced back with a 5-2 victory on January 11. The Falcons again caught fire in the second period, lighting the lamp four times in the frame to take the win.

Albertus posted one more win before the end of the season, defeating SUNY Canton by a 4-1 final score on January 24 in Canton, N.Y. The Roos were one of two teams that the Falcons beat this season that owned double-digit wins, as they owned a 13-9-3 overall record. The other Albertus win over a team with 10-plus victories was Fitchburg State with a 14-8-4 mark.
