MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-1 road loss to intrastate foe Wesleyan (Conn.) University on Tuesday evening at the Spurrier-Snyder Rink in Middletown, Conn.

Sophomore forward Brendan Sjostedt (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Falcons, the first of his young career. In net, Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) made 35 saves in a busy night between the pipes.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals controlled the first period, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Wiggle Kerbrat and Jake Lachance netted goals in the opening frame, with Kerbrat's coming on an early power play.

Wesleyan added to its advantage 3:09 into the second period on a goal from Owen Sweet to give the home team a 3-0 lead. On the power play again, Sweet gathered a loose puck in the middle of the zone and found daylight above Bateman's stick-side shoulder.

Albertus broke onto the scoreboard at the 7:53 mark of the second period to make it a 3-1 game. Sjostedt tallied his first career goal after cleaning up an almost-goal by Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec). Michaels' initial shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and fell straight down to Sjostedt for the score.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, they could not build on that momentum as the Cardinals went ahead 4-1 on a goal at the 17:17 mark. Emmet Powell netted the tally after beating a defender and sending a rocket into the bottom-right corner of the net.

In the third period, things did not get any better for AMC, as the Cardinals added one more goal to secure a 5-1 home victory.
