Late Goal Propels Wilkes to 3-2 Win Over Men’s Ice Hockey

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 road loss to the Colonels of Wilkes University on Saturday evening after the Colonels found a game-winning goal with 2:29 left in the third period.

Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) and Stephen Kyrkostas (Long Island, N.Y.) scored goals for the Falcons, with Kyrkostas' tally being the first of his young career. In net, Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) made a season-high 30 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons took the first lead of the game 2:56 into the first period on a goal from Risk.
• On the power play, Albertus passed the puck around the zone until Risk wristed a Ryan Colwell (Plainedge, N.Y.) pass over the opposing keeper's stick-side shoulder.
• Wilkes answered by scoring the following two goals to take a 2-1 advantage into the second period.
• Albertus evened the score at 2-2 13:45 into the second frame on a strike from Kyrkostas.
• After stealing the puck from a Colonels' skater, Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) guided a pass to a streaking Kyrkostas, who cut across the zone and slapped a shot over a sliding goalie.
• Neither team scored for the remainder of the second, as the game transitioned into the third deadlocked at 2-all.
• Following 17-plus minutes of scoreless hockey to start the third period, the Colonels took the lead with 2:29 remaining when an open Mason Vonk buried a shot from the center of his zone.
• Unfortunately for the Falcons, they could not find an equalizer before the final horn, sealing a 3-2 Colonels' win on Saturday evening.
