Men's Ice Hockey Completes Comeback with OT Win Over Nationally-Ranked Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) netted an overtime winner to seal a 5-4 road victory for the Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team over No. 10 nationally-ranked Trinity (Conn.) College on Saturday afternoon in Hartford, Conn.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bantams controlled the action in the first period, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead into the second.
  • The Falcons came out in the second period with added pressure, finding their first goal of the game 4:43 into the frame.
  • Following a cross-checking penalty by the Bantams, Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) cashed in on the power-play opportunity by burying a one-timer into the keeper's glove-side top corner to make it a 2-1 contest.
  • Albertus evened the bout at 2-2 14:49 into the second period on a goal by Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta).
  • After Cameron Weitzman (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec) forced a turnover in the neutral zone, Luke James (Moon Township, Pa. ) took a shot that was saved, but the puck found its way to Risk for an easy rebounded score.
  • Unfortunately for the Falcons, a penalty call in the final 1:50 of the period allowed Trinity to retake the lead, 3-2, heading into the third.
  • It didn't take Albertus long to even the bout at 3-3 in the third period, as Gagnon scored his second of the day by deflecting a Risk shot.
  • Following a goal by the Bantams to retake the lead at the 10:29 mark, it took Albertus 1:36 to even the score at 4-all.
  • On the power play, Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) kept the puck in AMC's zone, which led to a saved Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario) shot that Anderson rebounded for a goal.
  • With the game still tied at 4-4 at the end of regulation, the Falcons and Bantams went to overtime.
  • Albertus ended the contest 3:16 into OT when Anderson buried a saved Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec) shot over Trinity's goalie to seal the sixth straight win for the Falcons.
  • Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) made 24 saves against Trinity this afternoon to earn his seventh win of the season.
