NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind four different goal-scorers, the Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team captured a thrilling 4-3 home victory over the Cardinals of Wesleyan (Conn.) University on Tuesday evening inside the Ralph Walker Skating Rink.

The Falcons used a three-goal second period to tie the game at 3-3 before putting the go-ahead tally up in the third period from Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec). Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.), Kyler Campbell (Huntsville, Ontario), and Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) all scored for the blue-and-white in the second frame.

In goal, Joseph Giacobbo (Deptford, N.J.) held the Cardinals' offense at bay, as the senior netminder tallied 27 saves in a complete-game effort, his third game of the season with 20+ stops.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wesleyan (Conn.) dominated the first period, going up 2-0 on a pair of goals while out-shooting the Falcons by an 11-8 margin.
  • The Falcons roared right back early in the second period, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1, as the blue-and-white capitalized on a Cardinals penalty. Pattison netted his seventh goal of the season following assists from Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) and Austin Cook (West Berlin, N.J.).

  • Albertus would strike again just 91 seconds later, as Campbell found daylight between the keeper's legs following passes from Dino Antoniadis (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and Cook to even the game at 2-2.

  • Four minutes later, the Falcons took the lead for the first time in the game on a good goal from Gagnon at the 7:06 mark. Following back-to-back shot attempts from Risk and Tim Manning (Concord, Ohio), Gagnon found the loose puck in front of the net and put it past the keeper to give AMC the one-goal advantage, 3-2.

  • Shortly after, Wesleyan's Kyle Anderson tied the game at 3-all, firing a shot past a moving Giacobbo to erase the deficit.
  • The blue-and-white took the lead for good in the third period, as Michaels wasted no time, sending a missile into the back corner of the net to give AMC the 4-3 advantage.

  • Despite a pair of power-play opportunities and 13 shots in the final period, the Cardinals could not put the game-tying tally on the board, and the Falcons took home their first-ever victory over Wesleyan (Conn.) by a final score of 4-3.
