Men’s Ice Hockey Names Three to Academic All-District® Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team placed three student-athletes on the 2023 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, formerly CoSIDA. Honored for their combined academic and athletic achievements were Ryan Herpy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) and Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec).

2022-23 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Teams

The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21 (men) and June 22 (women).  

Herpy made 25 appearances and two starts for the Falcons as a senior defender in the 2022-23 season. He recorded three points behind three assists while taking 26 shots, with a season-high of five shots in the loss to Williams College and recorded assists against King's (PA), Hamilton and Rivier. Herpy was also a finalist for the 2023 Hockey Humanitarian Award. He boasts a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average and majored in political science.

Bateman was named the DIII Independent All-Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the DIII Independent 1st-Team All-Conference. He made 18 starts for the Falcons in net as a senior goalkeeper while logging 1003.39 minutes in net. Bateman allowed 33 goals for a career-best 1.97 goals against average and made 454 saves and recorded the highest single-season save percentage in Albertus Magnus men's ice hockey history with a .932 mark. He also compiled a 13-4 record in net for a career-best .765 winning percentage. Bateman posted a 3.96 cumulative GPA and majored in marketing.

Gagnon earned a number of accolades during the 2022-23 season including 1st-Team DIII Independent All-Conference Team, New England Hockey Writers Association DIII All-Star and a finalist for the Sid Watson Award. He made 25 appearances for the Falcons, with 21 starts as a senior forward and set the all-time Albertus Magnus College single-season record in assists (20) and points (30), while tying the Albertus Magnus College single-season record for goals with 13. He set a career-best with 33 points, behind career-bests in both goals (13) and assists (20). Gagnon majored in finance and held a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
