Lavigne's OT Goal Caps Men's Ice Hockey Comeback Win Over Castleton

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - William Lavigne (Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Québec ) scored the game winning goal 41 seconds into overtime as the Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal third period deficit to defeat Vermont State-Castleton, 4-3 in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) game at Ralph Walker Ice Rink on Saturday night.

The Falcons trailed 3-1 in the third before goals from Zane Kindrachuk (Calgary, Alberta) and JJ Berdal (Wausau, Wis.) tied the game to send it into the extra frame.

AJ Lackas (Las Vegas, NV) also scored his first career goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lackas got the scoring going for the Falcons just 2:12 into the first period, stuffing home a goal in front of the net off a pass from Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) to make it a 1-0 Albertus lead.
  • Castleton scored three goals in the second period, all coming in the final nine minutes of the period, the first coming from Luke Chakrabarti at the 11:05 mark after taking a pass from Andrew Stefura. Cam Reid scored just over three minutes later and Josef Vyvial added a power play goal with 18 seconds remaining in the period as he took a shot from his knees to make it a 3-1 Spartans lead.
  • The Albertus comeback began at the 9:53 mark of the third as Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) snuck a backhanded pass past two defenders to find Kindrachuk for a one-timer to make it a 3-2 game.
  • At the 15:24 mark, Berdal tied the game as he deflected a shot from Tim Manning to the top right side of the net, making it a 3-3 game, forcing overtime.
  • Just 41 seconds into the extra period, Lavigne raced down the ice with the puck and took a wrist shot past the glove side of Castleton goaltender, Dominic Rodrigue to give Albertus the weekend sweep.
