NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Maksim Tsegelnik (Moscow, Russia) of the Albertus Magnus men's ice hockey team was named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Rookie of the Week for his performance in the team's 2-0 weekend against conference foe Southern Maine on January 10-11.
In just his second game of his career, Tsegelnik recorded a hat trick with a plus/minus of +3 in the team's historic 10-1 win over the Huskies on January 10. Tsegelnik scored two goals in the first period - which were part of a four-goal opening period for the Falcons - and scored a goal at the 13:30 mark in the second period. Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) also registered a hat trick as the pair became the fourth and fifth players in program history to acheive the feat.
Tsegelnik also registered two shots in the 4-3 win over Southern Maine on Saturday.
Albertus returns to action on Friday, January 17 as it hosts Babson in NEHC play at 5 p.m. at Ralph Walker Ice Rink in the first game of a weekend series.
