Men's Ice Hockey Drops Close Game To No. 1 Hobart

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team lost a 4-2 game to No. 1 Hobart at Ralph Walker Ice Rink a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) contest on Saturday evening.

Tyler Ignazzito (Bath, Ontario) and Robert Barrasso (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) each scored a goal for the Falcons who split the weekend series with the back-to-back Division III champions.

Matt Lenz (Grapevine, TX) stopped 47 shots in net for the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Statesman took advantage of their first power-play opportunity of the day as Luke Aquaro's snapped a shot to make it a 1-0 game at the 13:56 mark.
  • In the second period, Albertus got on the board just 2:38 in as a shot from Andrew Van Antwerp (Petoskey, Mich.) deflected off the stick of Ignazzitto and past Hobart goaltender, Mavrick Goyer to make it a 1-1 game. It was the second straight game Ignazzitto deflected a shot in for a goal.
  • In the third period, Hobart capitalized off a five-minute power-play with two goals in the first 4:58 of the period. The first coming from Bauer Morrissey, and the second by Shane Shell.
  • Barrasso scored his third goal of the season to make it a 3-2 game at the 13:54 mark backhanded a shot in off an assist from Maksim Tseglnik (Moscow, Russia) and JJ Berdal (Wausau, Wis.).
  • Hobart added an empty net goal with less than two minutes remaining.

Barrasso has a point in each of his last four games.

The 47 saves for Lenz were the second most this season.

The loss was the first home loss for Albertus. The Falcons are 8-1 at Ralph Walker.
